Are you looking to make an unforgettable fall-off-the-fork, moist chocolate cake? Follow the simple recipe listed below.
Gather Your Ingredients
The key to making baking less stressful is gathering all of your tools and ingredients before starting, so you don't find yourself interrupting the process to find something. Let's start with the ingredients that will go into the cake. You will need:
1 1/2 cups and 2 tablespoons of flour. The tablespoons will be used for dusting your cake pans.
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar.
3/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder. This will provide much of the flavoring, so consider trying a Ghirardelli or similar option.
1/2 tablespoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon of baking soda
3/4 teaspoon of salt.
2 large eggs
3/4 cup buttermilk. If you do not have buttermilk, you can mix one cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, stir, and let sit for ten minutes.
3/4 warm water.
1/4 cup vegetable oil.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
A little butter for coating the pan.
Tools You Will Need
For this recipe, you will need a large mixing bowl and a hand mixer or stand mixer. Other utensils include a wooden spoon for incorporating ingredients and a spatula for scraping the bowl and beaters. This recipe will produce one large cake using a ten-inch round pan. To adjust the recipe to a three-tiered option, double the ingredients.
Preparing Your Cake
Preheat your over to 350 degrees so it will be ready when your mix is complete. Coat your pan with butter making sure to get the bottom and sides. Sprinkle in your flour and move around your pan until it is completely dusted. Tap out any excess flour. Now it is time to make your mix.
Combine your dry goods, including flour, baking soda, sugar, salt, and baking powder. You can use a stand mixer at low speed or combine with a wooden spoon making sure it is all incorporated.
Add in your moist ingredients, including eggs, warm water, vanilla, and oil. Use the stand or hand mixer on medium speed until mixed, approximately two to three minutes.
Pour your batter into the greased and flour pan and tap it on the counter once full to make sure the mixture settles.
Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Check with a toothpick to make sure it comes out clean before removing.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
Once your cake is cooled, top with your favorite frosting and enjoy!
